TYLER WILLIAMS BIG DAY PROPELS GUELPH SILVERCREEKS PAST WELLANSD JR JACKFISH

Tyler Williams drove in five runs on three hits to lead the Guelph Silvercreeks past Welland Jr Jackfish 14-8 on Saturday at Welland Sports Complex. Williams singled in the fifth scoring two, tripled in the fourth scoring one, singled in the sixth scoring one, and walked in the seventh scoring one.
Guelph Silvercreeks collected nine hits and the Jr Jackfish had 10 in the high-scoring affair.
An error put Guelph on the board in the top of the first.
Welland took the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Cole Carpenter doubled, and Tim Somerville hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run.
Jackson Groves singled, which helped Guelph tie the game at two in the top of the second.
The Silvercreeks took the lead in the top of the third. An error scored one run, to give Guelph the leg up, 3-2.
Welland jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the third inning after Carpenter hit a sacrifice fly, and Stefan Christian singled, each scoring one run.
Guelph captured the lead, 5-4, in the top of the fourth after Williams tripled, and Groves grounded out, each scoring one run.
Max Rutherford earned the win for the Guelph Silvercreeks. The reliever gave up six hits and four runs (three earned) over two and two-thirds innings, striking out six and walking one. Joseph Baka took the loss for the Jr Jackfish. The left-handed pitcher went one-third of an inning, giving up four runs (three earned) on two hits, striking out none and walking three. Jackson Markwood led things off on the mound for Guelph. The righty allowed four hits and four runs (two earned) over three innings, striking out one and walking three. Dante Cifala started on the mound for the Jr Jackfish. The righty gave up four hits and five runs (two earned) over four innings, striking out four and walking three. Judah McArthur appeared in relief for Guelph.
Guelph Silvercreeks piled up nine hits in the game. Williams and Groves each collected three hits for Guelph. Quinn Gammage collected two hits for Guelph in four at bats. Guelph Silvercreeks had patience at the plate, collecting 12 walks for the game. Zach Martens and Alex Camilo led the team with three walks each.
Guelph Silvercreeks play at home on Wednesday against Cambridge Cubs in their next game.
